Juan de Dios Mateos - Tenor

Juan de Dios Mateos was born in Almería, Spain in 1989. He started his music studies as a child in the Conservatory of Almería, where flute was his main instrument; he began singing when he was 17.  In 2010 he obtained his diploma in Music Education from the University of Almería and in 2013 received his Masters at the University of Jaén in Opera and Acting (and sang as a guest at the Jaén Ópera Joven).  In 2017, he was awarded 2nd Prize in the Hariclea Darclée International Voice Competition.

In 2015, the Opéra National de Paris invited Mateos to sing with the Opera Studio as Bidule Le Vol Retour in the French premiere of Joanna Lee’s opera. Following this production, he became one of the members of the Academie de l’Opéra National de Paris with whom he has performed Sir Phllip/Narrator Owen Wingrave, Mercure/Thélème Les Fêtes d’Hebé (including performances in London), Bastien Bastien et Bastienne and the tenor part in The Little Match Girl Passion by David Lang, as well as many concerts.

His other roles include Basilio/Curzio in Le Nozze di Figaro, Don Ottavio Don Giovanni, Tony West Side Story, Raoul The Phantom of the Opera and Javier Luisa Fernanda, as well as many opera and zarzuela recitals in Spain, France, England and Germany.

 Mateos has studied with Hedwig Fassbender, Ildar Abdrazakov, Luciana d’Intino or Jaume Aragall among others.   He is continuing his studies with Carlos Aransay and Guy Flechter.

He sings Cavalier Belfiore Il Viaggio a Reims at the Gran Teatre del Liceu, opening the theatre’s 2017/18 season and his upcoming engagements include Der Soldat Reigen (by Boesmans) with the Opera Studio of Paris, alongside concert and competition appearances.
