Abell_03It’s been a very busy few months for conductor David Charles Abell.  There’s been no gap at all between performances of Follies at Opéra de Toulon and rehearsals for a brand production of Sunday in the Park with George at the Chatelet in Paris, directed by Lee Blakeley: http://chatelet-theatre.com/2012-2013/sunday-in-the-park-with-george-fr. The first night is on 15th April and performances run until 25th April.  But that’s not all for David this month. On 28th April he will conduct the 2013 Olivier Awards http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00zzwcn/features/audience-award-2013 and  http://www.olivierawards.com at the Royal Opera House!

 

DT9434But MKAM’s involvement in Sunday in the Park with George isn’t confined to its MD.  Damian Thantrey plays Franz and Rudolph.  Damian has been involved in all three of the hugely successful Sondeim productions – A Little Night Music and Sweeney Todd complete the trio –  at the Chatelet during the time that Jean-Luc Choplin has been director.  Later this year, Damian will sing The English Clerk in Opera North’s Death in Venice and Apollo in Monteverdi’s Orfeo at the Opéra National de Lorraine (Nancy), a production conducted by Christophe Rousset. 

 

 

45082609-OC_Giovanni_staver_499Bass Richard Wiegold is singing the Commendatore in Kevin Newbury’s production of Don Giovanni (pictured) for Opera Colorado in Denver: http://operacolorado.org/?page_id=177.  This production is Richard’s operatic debut in the USA and the final performance takes place on 7th April.  Richard goes straight from Colorado to Cardiff for rehearsals for Jonathan Harvey’s Wagner Dream with Welsh National Opera, playing the role of Vairochanahttp://www.wno.org.uk/dream#tab-3.

 

 

Danny DriverPianist Danny Driver‘s very busy year continues. After playing Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto No. 1 with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra and Rachmaninov Piano Concerto No. 2 with the Orchestra of Opera North in March, this month he concentrates on the recital and recording side of his career.  On Friday 12th April he plays Beethoven Sonata No. 28 in A Major Opus 101 and Schumann Fantasy in C Major Opus 17 at the Bridgewater Hall as part of the Manchester Midday Concerts Season: https://tickets.bridgewater-hall.co.uk/single/eventDetail.aspx?p=20421.  Later in the month, Danny goes to Suffolk for the second recording session of Handel keyboard works (including the 8 Great Suites) for Hyperion.  Hear Danny play Handel, Schumann and Beethoven on BBC Radio 3’s In Tune on Friday 5th April from 1630 onwards: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01rl3c9 , and for a week after on BBC iPlayer.

louiseMott_031_2Finally, mezzo-soprano Louise Mott sings two roles – La Frugola and La Ciesca – in Haddo House Operatic Society’s current production of Il Tabarro/Gianni Schicchi on 10th, 12th and 13th April: http://www.hhcos.org.uk/events/details/35.  Louise has just finished very successful touring performances of 2nd Witch (and cover Dido) in Opera North’s new production of Dido & Aeneas, directed by Aletta Collins and conducted by Wyn Davies.
